The Flower
The flower of life was initially conceived in late August of 2004. It went through multiple variations in style before arriving at the natural-organic structure that is now complete. The flower is a lotus flower, the symbol of life throughout many cultures of the world. The flower is a lotus flower, the symbol of life throughout many cultures of the world. On each panel can be found a representational overview of one of seven distinct categories found throughout the various cultures of the world. The categories are: language and symbols, art and architecture, religions and beliefs, food, music and dance, clothing, and finally sports and games. Initially, Eric, Gretchen, and myself researched each one of these categories, and cross-referenced examples of these categories for visual examples. This was a 4-month process of preparation and design of materials to be presented to the students of the Rochester After School Academy.
